Meet the Team
Executive Director of Alumni Relations
Mario Peraza is the executive director of Alumni Relations. In this role, Mario guides the vision and direction for alumni programming and engagement of over 60,000 living alumni, and provides leadership and support for the Alumni Association of UCSF (AAUCSF). He also serves as the liaison between Alumni Relations and various campus partners. Mario leads a team of professional staff and alumni volunteers that together leverage and expand alumni relationships, connections, and networks across all areas of health care. Mario completed his bachelor's degree in chemistry at the University of Illinois and his M.Ed. degree in Higher Education Administration at the University of Maryland College Park. Prior to joining UCSF, Mario was the director of Alumni Volunteer programs at the University of Maryland working with over 100 alumni volunteers nationwide.
Senior Director of Alumni Relations
Katie Maloney is the senior director of Alumni Relations. She works with the School of Medicine and coordinates department operations. Prior to joining UCSF, Katie spent eight years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) overseeing the Parents Association and Student/Alumni Relations efforts for the MIT Alumni Association. She has also worked in development/alumni relations at the Maryland Institute College of Art and Marymount University. She holds a M.Ed. from the University of Georgia and a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland.
John R. McCoy
Director of Alumni Relations
John R. McCoy is the director of Alumni Relations. He works with the School of Dentistry and School of Nursing. Before joining UCSF, John managed the Alumni Relations and Annual Fund program at UC Hastings College of the Law where he was the senior director of alumni engagement. He is native to the Bay Area (Contra Costa County) and has spent his career overseeing community outreach and philanthropic initiatives on behalf of local and national nonprofit organizations, including Holy Names University (Oakland, Calif.), Washington Hospital Healthcare System (Fremont, Calif.), and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from UC Davis and an MBA from Holy Names University.
Assistant Director of Volunteer Programs
Emily Arnold has worked in Alumni and Board Relations for the past eight years. She spent four years coordinating regional and affinity group strategy for Columbia University’s alumni association, before relocating to the Bay Area in 2017. For the past 3½ years, her work has focused on the volunteer experience for the UCSF Foundation Board of Directors, including board and committee meetings and volunteer-led programs like the UCSF Chancellor’s Circle. Emily works with the Pharmacy Alumni Association (PAA) and the AAUCSF Nominating Committee, and she loves interacting with the passionate and dedicated alumni who serve in this capacity. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Utah State University.
Alumni Relations Analyst
Nancy Knowles is the alumni relations analyst. She manages events for the Alumni Relations team in addition to other alumni-enrichment projects at UCSF. Before joining this team, Nancy worked at Marin General Hospital and Novato Community Hospital as well as in the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery managing events, coordinating websites, and handling communications. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Mills College.
Faculty Alumni House Manager & Alumni Relations Manager
Louis Gutierrez is the alumni relations manager for our “alumni-like” constituents. He manages both the Emeriti Faculty and Retirees Associations, and he oversees the alumni weekend program for Physical Therapy. A Southern Californian native from Orange County and a graduate of California State University, Long Beach, Louis’ wide range of experiences includes manager for a facilities management company and director of administration for a software startup. Prior to working for UCSF, Louis worked in the baking and pastry department of a San Francisco Michelin-rated restaurant.
Alumni Engagement Coordinator
Stephanie Yee is the alumni engagement coordinator and is involved in enriching the alumni experience through tailored communications, programs, events, and services from UCSF. Before joining UCSF’s Alumni Relations team, Stephanie supported the UCSF Adult Hemophilia Treatment Center after working a few years in the Career Development Office at UC Hastings College of the Law. She is a graduate of UC Davis where she started her career in higher education with Student Services.
Associate Director of Class Giving
Kristin (Kris) Salkil is the associate director of class giving and is responsible for comprehensive reunion and graduating class solicitation strategies across UCSF’s professional schools. Class Giving programs include peer-to-peer and class-committee-based outreach, direct marketing, and individual solicitations. Prior to joining UCSF’s Annual and Special Giving team, Kris worked in development at the American Red Cross, UC Berkeley, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Newseum in Washington, D.C. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.
Associate Director of Alumni Annual Giving
Kevin Hall is the associate director of alumni annual giving and manages fundraising efforts targeting alumni, resident alumni, and graduates across UCSF's professional schools. As part of the Alumni Annual Giving program, Kevin's primary focus is data, reporting, direct mail, and email marketing. Before joining UCSF’s Annual and Special Giving team, Kevin worked in various development capacities at St. John Church (Richmond, Calif.), Glide Foundation, Cal Alumni Association, and UC Berkeley. He also worked in the corporate sector at the Raymond Handling Corporation and The Body Shop Inc. In addition to studying business administration at San Francisco State University, Kevin is an award-winning web and graphic designer and musician.
Annual Giving Coordinator
Sydney Smith joins the UCSF alumni team as annual giving coordinator. In this new role, she will be reaching out by phone and text to alumni from across our professional schools and graduate programs. Prior to joining UCSF, Sydney worked in development at OneTrack International, Dartmouth College, and the University of San Francisco (USF). She graduated from USF with a degree in management. Sydney is originally from Highlands Ranch, Colo. and is a huge Denver Broncos fan.
