San Bruno Mountain Park
555 Guadalupe Canyon Parkway
Brisbane, CA 94005
United States

10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Paul’s enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge about the San Bruno Mountain area have earned him a mention in the best selling book, 101 Great Hikes of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Bog Loop is a .8 mile loop beginning at San Bruno's main trailhead, just north of Guadalupe Canyon Parkway. Bog Trail winds levelly on a dirt path through blackberry, coyote brush, and coffee berry, with willows and dogwood thriving in moist spots. Saddle Loop is a 2.9-mile loop and is the most popular circuit at San Bruno. Starting at the trailhead just past the park entrance, Saddle Loop Trail skirts the picnic area and then climbs easily through grassy hillsides. Wildflowers bloom in spring, although much of the area in this part of the park has been overtaken by gorse, a non-native shrub. The hike offers outstanding views of San Francisco, and on clear days, views of much of the Point Reyes peninsula and the Farallones as well. The loop finishes on a level, paved trail, winding through eucalyptus. Although the hikes are relatively easy, they pass through some muddy and hilly areas.

Bring water, sun protection, and a snack or lunch. Wear sturdy shoes, long pants, layered clothing, and bring binoculars. This event is popular, so sign up early!
