United States

6 - 7 p.m. Pacific time

The pandemic and the shocking racial disparities in its impact. The surge in inflammatory illnesses such as gastrointestinal disorders and asthma. Mass uprisings around the world in response to systemic racism and violence. Rising numbers of climate refugees. Our bodies, societies, and planet are inflamed.

Join us online as Ramona Tascoe, MD ’79, leads a lively discussion with Rupa Marya, MD, resident alum and associate clinical professor in the UCSF Division of Hospital Medicine. They will talk about her new book, Inflamed: Deep Medicine and the Anatomy of Injustice, which she co-wrote with political economist Raj Patel, and discuss how she illuminated the connections between our health and structural injustices and used them to develop a new deep medicine that can heal our bodies and our world.

This program is brought to you by the UCSF Office of Alumni Relations and UCSF Archives as part of the virtual event series in which distinguished UCSF alumni authors discuss their recently published books. UCSF is also committed to making its facilities, activities, and events accessible. To request accommodations for this event, please contact us at least one week before the event date.
