Join UCSF retirees for a docent-led tour of the Mechanics’ Institute for a unique glimpse into San Francisco’s rich cultural heritage!

The historic Beaux-Arts style building is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Founded in 1854, it was an educational and cultural institution to serve the vocational needs of out-of-work gold miners and a hub for innovation, learning, and community. Today, the Mechanics’ Institute continues as a membership organization, boasting a fantastic general-interest library, an active calendar of cultural events, and a world-renowned chess club. It is a favorite of avid readers, writers, downtown employees, students, film lovers, chess players, and the 21st-century nomadic worker in search of a place for literary pursuits, thinking, research, and study.

UCSF is committed to making its facilities, activities, and events accessible. To request accommodations for this event, please contact [email protected] as soon as possible.
