The History and Impact of Racism on Health Care, Medicine, and Science

Recent socioeconomic events, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement, are the latest examples of how systematic racism adversely affects the health of underrepresented individuals and communities. The need to combat racism is undeniable, but what does combating racism look like for present-day health scientists and health care providers?

Join Aimee Medeiros, PhD ’12, associate professor and director of graduate studies; D’Anne Duncan, PhD, assistant dean for diversity and learner success in the Graduate Division; Ayanna Bennet, MD, resident alum and director of the Office of Health Equity at the San Francisco Department of Public Health; and Karen Hill, PhD ’14, ANP-C, MSN’04, RN, senior consultant for Health Management Associates, for an online presentation about the historical relationship between systematic racism and the health sciences as well as how to incorporate health equity into health care.
